Afyon Grey Marble

Afyon Grey Marble is a light, cool grey marble with a soft blue-grey tint, fine natural speckling, and subtle cloudy movement. The stone has a calm, contemporary look that sits between bright white marble and a traditional medium-grey marble, making it useful for pool decks, patios, coping, steps, wall caps, and vertical accent details.

This collection is planned as the STONELUX replacement direction for Arctic Grey Marble. The design goal is a cleaner light-grey marble family with improved outdoor sandblasting, a softer blue-grey color cast, and a product range that can support pavers, coping, treads, caps, ledger panels, and splitface veneer.

Buying Guide

Color and Appearance

Afyon Grey Marble has a very light cool-grey background with fine blue-grey speckling throughout the surface. The movement is soft and cloudy rather than strongly veined or dramatic. In dry, unsealed product photos, the sandblasted finish can make the stone look lighter, softer, and more matte than it will appear after sealing.

Because this is natural marble, expect variation from piece to piece. Some pieces may read closer to soft white-grey, while others may show more blue-grey tone or slightly deeper cloudy movement. Blend material from multiple crates during installation so the finished surface looks balanced.

Improved Sandblasted Outdoor Finish

Afyon Grey is produced with a sandblasted outdoor finish. Compared with smoother indoor marble finishes, the sandblasted surface gives the stone a matte, lightly textured face that is better suited for exterior pool and hardscape applications.

The improved sandblasting method is intended to create a more practical outdoor surface for pool decks, coping, patios, steps, and wall caps. No natural stone surface should be treated as slip-proof. Final performance still depends on slope, drainage, installation method, cleaning, sealing, pool chemistry, and site conditions.

Sealing and Final Color

Afyon Grey Marble should be sealed for outdoor use. A standard penetrating stone sealer will usually darken and deepen the color compared with the dry, unsealed sandblasted surface. This is expected and should be reviewed with a sample before the material is approved for a project.

If the project needs a stronger grey or blue-grey appearance, a color-enhancing sealer can be tested. Enhancers can bring out more depth, contrast, and blue-grey tone, but they can also change the final appearance more noticeably than a standard sealer. Always test the exact sealer or enhancer on a sample piece before installation.

Where Afyon Grey Marble Works Best

Afyon Grey is a good fit when the project needs a bright but cooler marble surface. It works well with modern homes, white or grey hardscapes, dark metal accents, Black Basalt details, light porcelain pavers, glass waterline tile, and clean outdoor living designs.

  • Pool decks and patios: use Afyon Grey pavers when the project needs a light grey marble field with a calm, contemporary tone.
  • Pool coping and spa edges: use bullnose or eased edge coping to finish pool edges, raised spas, water features, and step transitions.
  • Steps and wall caps: use thicker cap and tread pieces for raised patios, walls, landings, outdoor kitchens, and transition details.
  • Vertical surfaces: use splitface veneer or ledger panels for outdoor kitchens, fireplace walls, columns, raised pool walls, and water feature faces.

Current Product Direction

The Afyon Grey Marble collection is being prepared with sandblasted pavers, pool coping, oversized treads, wall-cap formats, splitface veneer, and ledger panels. Planned paver formats include French Pattern, 16x24, 24x24, and 24x36. Coping and cap formats include standard 12x24, 14x24, 16x24, larger 24x24 and 24x36 pieces, long 12x48, 14x48, 16x48, and 24x48 options, plus 24x72 treads.

Availability can vary by size, profile, thickness, and production schedule. Confirm current stock, incoming shipments, sample appearance, and sealer expectations before finalizing a project.

Afyon Grey vs. Arctic Grey Marble

Afyon Grey and Arctic Grey both sit in the light grey marble family, but Afyon Grey is intended to be the newer replacement direction. Afyon Grey has a softer light-grey background, fine blue-grey speckling, and a calmer cloudy appearance. Arctic Grey may read slightly different depending on batch, finish, and sealer.

If a project was originally designed around Arctic Grey, compare Afyon Grey samples in both dry and sealed conditions before confirming the substitution. The sandblasted Afyon Grey face can look lighter before sealing, while a standard sealer or enhancing sealer can make the final installed color deeper.

Installation Notes

For exterior installations, plan the base, setting method, slope, drainage, movement joints, and sealing before installation. These details are especially important around pools, raised walls, steps, water features, and freeze-thaw regions.

For coping, confirm overhangs, corners, skimmers, drains, autocover details, radius conditions, spa edges, and step transitions before setting the stone. For large-format pavers or oversized treads, use proper handling and cutting methods to reduce breakage and keep edges clean.

Care and Maintenance

Use a penetrating, breathable sealer appropriate for exterior marble. Clean with water or pH-neutral stone cleaners. Avoid acidic cleaners, bleach, harsh chemicals, and aggressive pressure washing. Around pools, rinse chemical splash, mineral residue, leaves, soil, mulch, and metal furniture marks regularly.

Afyon Grey is a light marble, so maintenance expectations should be discussed before installation. Sealer selection, drainage, tree coverage, pool chemistry, and cleaning habits will all affect how the stone looks over time.

Afyon Grey Marble FAQ

Is Afyon Grey Marble the replacement for Arctic Grey Marble?

Afyon Grey is planned as the newer STONELUX replacement direction for Arctic Grey Marble. It keeps the light grey marble design direction but has a softer blue-grey tint, fine speckling, and improved sandblasted outdoor finish.

Why does Afyon Grey look lighter before sealing?

The sandblasted finish creates a dry, matte surface that can make the marble look lighter and softer before sealing. Standard sealers usually deepen the color slightly, while color-enhancing sealers can darken and enrich the grey tone more.

Should Afyon Grey Marble be sealed?

Yes. Sealing is required for outdoor Afyon Grey Marble installations. The exact sealer should be tested on a sample first because standard sealers and color enhancers can change the final appearance.

Can Afyon Grey Marble be used around pools?

Yes, Afyon Grey Marble is intended for pool deck, coping, patio, and outdoor hardscape applications when installed correctly. Proper slope, drainage, base preparation, sealing, cleaning, and maintenance are important.

Is sandblasted Afyon Grey Marble slip-proof?

No natural stone should be considered slip-proof. The sandblasted finish provides a more practical outdoor texture than polished marble, but wet conditions, slope, cleaning, sealing, and installation details still matter.

What colors pair well with Afyon Grey Marble?

Afyon Grey pairs well with white, cream, black, charcoal, soft grey, stainless steel, dark bronze, glass tile, greenery, and light porcelain materials. Black Basalt can create a stronger modern contrast.
