Required Exterior Marble Installation

STONELUX installation requirement: Exterior marble pavers, coping, caps, and treads must not be dry-laid or installed directly over sand, gravel, stone dust, soil, or turf. Horizontal marble should be permanently bonded over a properly designed, cured concrete slab or approved cementitious substrate with an exterior-rated wet-set mortar system or white polymer-modified mortar approved for natural stone. Vertical marble veneer requires a properly prepared concrete, masonry, or approved cementitious substrate and a compatible exterior stone mortar.

Plan full mortar coverage, slope, drainage, movement joints, waterproofing where required, and site-specific transitions before installation. Moisture moving through an unsuitable substrate or setting system can contribute to staining or efflorescence in marble and other light stone. Sealing Exterior Marble

All exterior marble supplied by STONELUX must be sealed after installation and the setting system's required cure time. Use a sealer compatible with the marble, finish, exposure, and desired appearance. STONELUX recommends TERATONE 467 Color Enhancing Deep Penetrating Protector for compatible unfinished or sandblasted marble when a richer color and satin appearance are desired. Review the TERATONE manufacturer guidance, test a small inconspicuous area first, avoid overapplication, and follow all label directions. Sealer does not replace correct substrate preparation, drainage, waterproofing, or maintenance.
